Jesus appeared to St. Faustina on February 22, 1031 to deliver the message of Divine Mercy. He asked her to have an image painted of Him standing with two rays coming from His chest, with the words, "Jesus, I trust in You" underneath. The rays represent the blood ad water that poured forth when He was cruelly pierced by the lance after His crucifixion. Jesus told St. Faustina that this image would be a reminder to all mankind of God's endless mercy.
